Hovland and Coville Volunteer Fire Departments joined forces at Horse Shoe Bay. This exercise provides important synergy and cooperation in providing fire protection for the area.

The Fire Department has a new Water Tender.  Spent the evening hooking up WT to review operational setup and pumping.

A water tender, also known as a tanker in some regions, is a specialized firefighting apparatus designed for transporting water from a water source to a fire scene. Water tenders are capable of drafting water from a stream, lake or hydrant.

The Hovland Fire Dept honored Ben Petz for his 35 years of service. Fire Chief Charlie LaBoda presented a gift for his service and dedication.

This event was held at the Fire Hall during the annual strategic planning and evaluation meeting.  Fire Chief Charlie LaBoda said is was a good year for the Hovland Fire Dept.

The Hovland VFD held a night time training: A Speedy Delivery truck had caught fire and the manifest showed the flammable materials on the truck. This training was held on North Road.

All departments were called and responded. Fire Trucks and STOP Team were sent since the report stated that the driver had left the scene to call the fire dept.  This training, lead by Training Officer Joe Peterson, was a review of the coordinated effort and needed skills to maintain readiness.

The Hovland VFD held a night time road scene training with a collision between a bicyclist and a pick up. This training was held on North Road.

All departments were called and responded. Fire Trucks, First Responders, STOP Team and Ambulance. This training, lead by Training Officer Joe Peterson, was a needed review of the coordinated effort and needed skills to maintain readiness.

Annual Pot Luck Dinner

The Hovland Area Volunteer Fire Department held their annual community Pot Luck dinner and annual meeting last night at the Hovland Town Hall. Terry Spieker, Assistant Fire Chief presided over the gathering with brats and hamburgers and great food from all who attended.

Training 7/28/2016

Joe Peterson, Training Officer, reviewed set up of water tender fire truck to holding tank and pumping systems for the E18 fire truck. This process was repeated so each firefighter had a chance to operate and manage pumping water from the holding tank to the pumping system of the E18 fire truck.

John Barton – Communications Director is working with Rowan Watkins from the Cook County IT department in adjusting and calibrating the frequency of all the radios of the Hovland fire trucks and hand held radios. This new system allows county wide communications and also taps in the the state wide system.

Training 7/14/2016

Al Taenzer, Evacuation Program Director and Joe Peterson, Training Officer held an evacuation training tonight at the Hovland Fire Department building, The members broke into 5 teams and headed to the east of the fire dept and contacted a list of home owners who were instructed on the procedures and evacuation routes had this been a real emergency.
